What Is Whiteboard Animation?

Whiteboard Animation

Very few online videos have the ability to rivet their intended audience’s attention. Whiteboard animation is one such technique that can make images come to life on screen. Also known as video scribing and animated doodling, this video creation technique is meant specifically to create presentations. This includes creating stories and incorporating them into small clips. The term comes from the image of someone drawing on a whiteboard and committing it to print, which is basically what the final product seems like.

From a Spectator’s POV

In this day and age where quick information is in demand, capturing the mind of a specific audience can be a challenge. However, whiteboard animation presentations and videos have the ability to actively engage said people in any message they are promoting. Rather than bombarding them with images, the animator creates a ‘video’ that seems as if an invisible hand is drawing on a white board or screen as it progresses. This kind of communication medium makes the viewer anticipate each frame without spacing out.

From the Presenter’s POV

Presenting an idea in a room full of people can be nerve wracking, but whiteboard animation makes the job significantly easier. Once they hire a video making company who specialize in such practices, they need to meet with them to bring them on the same page regarding their business.

Step 1 - Script Writing

A powerful script has the ability to capture (long lasting) attention. A good video company has qualified writers that are more than capable of coming up with a story that can fit their client’s business perfectly.

Step 2 – Storyboard and Design

As soon as a suitable script has been finalized, the animators get to work creating a storyboard around it. This is where whiteboard animation comes into play. Taking their inspiration from the completed script animators create eye catching images and place them in motion on screen. The process can take as little as 2 weeks and as long as 4 weeks depending on the scope of the business and/or complexity of the message.

Step 3 – Voice Recording

After the animation is done, the company will assign appropriate voice actors to ‘breathe life’ into them through their vocals. Many people like recording their own voices, but for top quality, it’s better to hire professionals.

Step 4 – Final Video Production

After the script has been recorded successfully, the final production is set in motion. This is the part where the animator records the layout as it is drawn. The completed product is sent over to the video production crew that put all of the pieces together to create the final video.
